On the homefront....

On Friday both Walker and I got to tour the house we like in Gibson City.   It is truly an amazing house for the price.  The current owner did a wonderful job of maintaining the house and he is still improving it such as adding a third full bathroom to the basement.  Honestly I called the realtor on a whim just to see if I liked the inside of the house as much as the outside.  It's funny- a lot of things I do on a whim turn out really well (like grad school, buying our 1st house).  So now it's time to make an appointment with our lender to see what's what.  If we moved within the next year we'd have to pay back $2000 on the grant I got when I bought our current house.  And oh yeah there's the whole issue of even selling our house!  That's the part that makes us really nervous.  We're pretty sure the financial aspect will work out; we just can't buy a house until we sell ours.  There is no way around that.  We're going to just keep praying that everything will work out the way it's supposed to.

Big Changes(?)

Talk to me about my job for 5 minutes and you'll quickly find out there are many things I detest about it.  There are also things I love but not enough to keep me in the school distict.  There is a very good chance that next year I will be teaching in Walker's school district.  With both of us teaching in Gibson City it would be silly not to live there (especially since we don't want our kids going to Champaign schools).  We want to get there as soon as possible.  There is currently a GREAT house for sale in Gibson at a really good price.  But is this something we can realistically do anytime soon?  My main concern is that we wouldn't be able to sell our house.  There are quite a few things we need to do to our house to get it "sale-worthy."  And even then it's not a guarantee our house would sell quickly.  And then there's the issue of the downpayment.  Yes we have some money saved up but definitely not enough for a downpayment.  Could we save enough for one by this summer?  Not sure to be honest.
I've been really trying to just pray about all of this; well actually about a lot of things.  Like recently I've been looking at ways I could work from home.  But God made it very clear last night during prayer that I'm supposed to be in a classroom so that issue is settled.  I think He was also telling me that I just need to have patience on the house issue and that it WILL happen, but it's going to happen in His time, not my time.
And is it possible our little one is already starting to teethe?  I have noticed a lot more spit bubbles and she seems to chew on her paci more.  Also chewing on her hands is a favorite activity.  And she's been so fussy at night.   I guess only time will tell.

2 month check up

Today Taylor had her 2 month check up.  She now measures 20 1/2 inches long and is 9 lbs 7 oz!  The doctor said she jumped into the 20th percentile for weight.  I have no idea what percentile she was in before.   Taylor also had to endure 3 shots.  The first one wasn't too bad (she didn't even stop drinking from her bottle) but the other 2 must have hurt because she turned bright red and screamed.  Poor baby!  But our doctor was very impressed that she's already rolling over.  Yeah we know she's a genius. =)
We're looking forward to an increase in temp tomorrow so we can go on a walk.  We all have cabin fever!
2 months!

First Family Post

Everyone else has a blog, why not us?
Clearly our blog title describes our family. Who's the geek? Well Missy of course! No the geek is Walker and he wears that label with pride.

Tomorrow Taylor will be 2 months old. It is hard to believe that 2 months have already gone by. In that time she has gained almost 4 pounds (we'll find out tomorrow the exact number!), has rolled over in both directions, and can sit in her bumbo chair unassisted. Walker is even already training her to hold her bottle but I don't think that will happen anytime soon.

Missy and Mazie have adjusted very well to having a baby around. Missy could care less except when it takes away from her getting attention. Mazie has shown some curiosity but like most cats she prefers to have her own space.

Walker's job is going well of course. Everyone loves him at his school which is of course good for me.
And I sadly only have a week left of maternity leave. I am not ready to leave my little girl and return to the now-chaos of my classroom but it is a necessity.
Will update tomorrow after the doctor's appointment!
